15th Anniversary
Heritage Marathon

Last Saturday, on 27 April, our pioneer and present leaders, joined by our dedicated staff and their families, came together to commemorate our 15th anniversary through our first-ever Heritage Marathon!

The event featured three categories, tailored to accommodate varied preferences and fitness levels:

  • 11km runners

  • 11km cyclists

  • 4km walkers

The day began early as our 11km runners and cyclists gathered at Tower A, NTFGH at 6.15am. After a quick registration process, everyone made their way to Alexandra Hospital, a poignant starting point symbolising our humble beginnings. The event was graced by our pioneer leaders, Mr Foo Hee Jug, A/Prof Cheah Wei Keat, Dr Quek Lit Sin and Dr Chua Chi Siong, as well as our current leaders, A/Prof Dan Yock Young, Clinical A/Prof Gerald Chua, Adj A/Prof Chee Thong Gan, Adj Asst Prof Kelvin Koh, Ms Christina Loh, Mr Ng Kian Swan, Ms Ng Sow Chun and Ms Ong Kwee Heok. Despite some of the senior leaders opting for the 4km walk, they arrived early to show their support for those attempting the 11km route.

From Alexandra Hospital, everyone proceeded to the rail corridor where a brief opening speech was delivered by CEO, A/Prof Dan. At 7.30am, the loud bellow of the air horn signalled the start of the marathon. With enthusiasm and joy, the convoy put their best foot forward and headed for NTFGH.

Over at Tower A, NTFGH, the 4km walkers started to gather around 7.30am, swiftly making their way to their starting point at the Ulu Pandan PCN along Blk 340, Clementi Avenue 5. Armed with towels in hand and adorned with hats, the walking contingent set off at 8:15 am alongside the 11km runners and cyclists who passed by.

Slowly but surely, our participants—young and old—began to arrive. We all gathered at the Annexe holding point, and together we crossed the finishing line as ONE #JHCFamily. Mr Foo Hee Jug, Dr Quek Lit Sin and A/Prof Dan—CEOs past and present—took the lead and proudly held up the 15th Anniversary logo flag as they led the participants through the finishing line.

Participating in a marathon isn't just about physical fitness—it's also about mental fortitude. By embracing the marathon spirit, our staff and senior leaders continue to cultivate a mindset of resilience and strength, enabling us to push boundaries and most importantly, create memorable moments together!

The event witnessed an overwhelming turnout, with almost 170 staff members and family members choosing to spend their Saturday morning with us in our first-ever marathon. Our staff's unwavering support serves as a testament to the strong sense of kampong spirit within JurongHealth Campus.

We concluded the event on a celebratory note with a spread of refreshments. As a symbol of their tenacity, all staff who completed the marathon were presented with special commemorative 15th Anniversary caps that even come with iron-on patches.
