Towards Future-Ready Care 🚀🫱🏻🫲🏻
At the CE Townhall on 18 May 2026, staff came together for a forward-looking conversation on what it means to become the Healthcare Workforce of the Future (HWF). This is not a distant goal - it is a shared responsibility that starts today.
Prof Yeoh Khay Guan, Chief Executive, NUHS, opened the session with key updates on NUHS’ FY2026 priorities. These include the Balanced Scorecard, which continues to focus on areas that matter deeply to patients, staff and the organisation - patient experience, employee engagement and wellbeing, future-ready capabilities, sustainability, and transformation. Staff also heard updates on major infrastructure developments, including the renewal of Alexandra Hospital, Tengah General and Community Hospital, and the redevelopment of the National University Hospital.
Another key highlight was WECARE 2.0, the next phase of NUHS’ service culture journey. Created by NUHS, for NUHS, WECARE 2.0 builds on our WECARE principles and TRICEP values, tailored to our healthcare environment. At its core, WECARE is about shaping a culture where our people feel supported, respected and heard, so we can continue giving our best to our patients and colleagues.
To support this journey, NUHS will also introduce an AI learning roadmap for all staff. This structured pathway spans four levels of AI readiness - from AI Novice and AI Aware, to AI Ready and AI Competent. The goal is to help staff build confidence to work faster, smarter and better, with all staff expected to reach the core level by FY2027.
The conversation then turned to what Healthcare Workforce of the Future (HWF) means for all of us. More than technology or new ways of working, HWF is about supporting staff wellbeing and fulfilment, improving patient outcomes and experience, sustaining manpower and operations, and driving innovation and transformation across the system.
From the JurongHealth Campus (JHC) perspective, A/Prof Dan Yock Young, CEO, NTFGH and JCH, emphasised that HWF @ JurongHealth Campus is ultimately “about ourselves”, not something we wait for, but something we create together.
For JHC, this means continuing to “Bring Health to Every Home in Jurong” through acute care as a safety net, integrated care in the community as a trampoline net, and innovative high-value care as our future net. It is about shaping care that is safer, kinder and nimbler - for both our people and our patients.
The session ended with a Q&A panel featuring CE Prof Yeoh Khay Guan; CEO, NTFGH & JCH A/Prof Dan Yock Young; CMB Low Shiong Wen; SD, Allied Health, Adj A/Prof Chee Thong Gan; ADON Clarice Wee; Head, Pharmacy, Fung Kar Yen and moderator GCHRO Clara Sin, where staff had the opportunity to hear different perspectives on HWF and how it could take shape across different roles and disciplines.
As JHC moves forward, the open challenge to staff is not only to imagine what healthcare could look like, but to ask: “What do I do differently tomorrow?” Whether through learning new skills, adopting new tools, simplifying work, or finding better ways to care for one another and our patients, each of us has a part to play in shaping the healthcare workforce of the future.
