Hooked by the Sea 🎣🌊🌅

Hi! I’m Syafiqah — or Aiqa for short! I’m a Patient Service Associate Executive from the Specialist Outpatient Clinic at NTFGH!
One fun fact about me is that I love to travel, especially to places by the sea. And after hours, my favourite way to unwind is… fishing!🎣

🎣 Reel love, ready to sail! 🌊

I first picked up fishing around 2017, just before COVID hit. My husband introduced me to it — and let’s just say, he created a monster! I’ve been hooked ever since. What started as a casual activity quickly became something I truly love.
My husband and I often plan fishing trips overseas, usually to Rompin, Malaysia. Before every trip, we’ll set a target — though the fish don’t always cooperate! We often aim for tenggiri (Spanish mackerel), and even if we don’t land one, the challenge keeps us motivated to try again. That’s all part of the fun!
Sometimes, fishing becomes a family affair. My father-in-law and brother-in-law will join us, turning each trip into a meaningful bonding experience. While we do fish locally in Singapore, our first overseas trip really changed everything — discovering new fishing spots and species added a whole new level of excitement. (And yes… we might be slightly addicted!)
One of my most memorable moments was during a Rompin trip where we almost landed a sailfish. I still remember the adrenaline rush of seeing it leap out of the water — it was breathtaking, and easily one of the toughest yet most exhilarating fishing experiences I’ve ever had.
🐟 Double the catch, double the joy 😄🎣

🎣 Catches of the day, memories for life 💙

Preparation is a big part of the journey. The day before a trip, I make sure our rods, gear, and extra clothes are packed, and I prepare food and drinks for the day. As Muslims, we also recite our Dua for safety and blessings — and of course, for plenty of bites.
People are often surprised when they hear that I’m an avid fisherwoman. Fishing isn’t easy — the waves, currents, and long waiting times truly test your patience. But that’s exactly why I love it. Fishing has taught me resilience, calm, and perseverance. I once injured my hand and had to stop fishing for two months — and honestly, that break was tougher than the fishing itself.
Every fishing trip feels like a new adventure. Whether it’s discovering new spots, chasing different species, or simply sharing the experience with my family, each journey brings something new.
One day, I hope to cast my line in places like Thailand, the Maldives, or Australia — but until then, the sea continues to surprise me in its own ways.
🐟 From Rompin to SG — still hooked! 🎣

To me, fishing is a lot like life. You don’t always know what lies ahead, but with the right tools, preparation, and patience, the rewards will come — sometimes when you least expect them.
The calm of the sea, the long waits, and the thrill of a catch remind me to slow down, stay resilient, and trust the process.
