Hi, I’m Lea Ping, a Senior Technician from the Central Sterile Supply Department (CSSD) at NTFGH!

After hours, you’ll often find me with a pen or brush in hand — drawing, doodling, or painting my next creation.

I first discovered my love for drawing in 2021 when I chanced upon Zentangle tutorials on YouTube — an art form that uses structured, repetitive patterns to create calm, meditative designs. I was fascinated by the countless variations and limitless patterns that could emerge from just a pen and paper.

The moment I started, I felt relaxed and completely absorbed in the process. I love picking up my pen and letting my mind wander freely — and every time I finish a piece, I’m pleasantly surprised by how each drawing takes on a life of its own.

In 2022, I decided to learn more formally by attending Zentangle classes. Since then, I’ve also begun exploring watercolour and free-mind painting. I still return to Zentangle as my foundation, but I enjoy mixing styles — sometimes blending watercolour into my patterned art, depending on my mood that day.

When work gets busy, I set aside just 10–15 minutes each day to draw. On quieter days, I can spend hours completely immersed in creating. My setup is simple — just a table, pen, and paper — but it’s all I need to relax and recharge.

One of my favourite things to create is handmade cards for friends and colleagues. I often draw designs based on what they like — a cat for a cat lover, or a monkey for a friend born in the Year of the Monkey. Seeing their smiles and hearing their kind words always fills me with joy and gratitude.

Art has taught me that no one is perfect from the start — and that’s okay. You just have to believe in yourself, pick up the pen, and keep going. Over time, you’ll surprise yourself with what you can create.

Through art, I’ve learnt that creativity isn’t about perfection — it’s about expression. Every piece, every imperfection, tells a story of growth. And when we create from the heart, we don’t just make something beautiful — we also discover beauty within ourselves. 🌼
