Finding Balance on Two Wheels 🚲⛰️

Hi, I’m Racquel, a Staff Nurse from Ward B11S at NTFGH!

Being a nurse from the Geriatric ward, and like many in healthcare, my days can be both physically and emotionally demanding. Some days are exhausting, while others are quietly meaningful — filled with small moments of connection, a patient’s smile, or being there when someone needs comfort.

After work, cycling has become my way of unwinding and recharging. I’ve always admired the beauty of nature, and cycling makes it even more enjoyable!

I love how safe and accessible cycling is in Singapore — it allows me to explore new routes on my own, discover hidden paths, and take in views that instantly lift my mood.

Being on my bike helps reduce stress and anxiety, and gives me space to breathe and reset.

I usually cycle twice a week, often in the late afternoon or evening, between 4pm and 9pm. Most of the time, I ride alone — our work schedules don’t always align — but I do meet friends occasionally for group rides.

Cycling solo has its own charm though; it has taught me that I enjoy moments of being alone with my thoughts. Those quiet rides give me mental clarity, a fresh perspective, and even help me sleep better at night. There’s also a strong sense of accomplishment at the end of each ride that keeps me wanting to go again.

Jurong Lake Gardens is my favourite cycling spot. The atmosphere there never makes me feel lonely — the greenery, the gentle lapping of water, and the cool shade from the trees all come together perfectly. One of my most memorable rides, however, was cycling at Pulau Ubin. It was the most intense route I’ve ever taken on, but also the most unforgettable.

I ride with a bike gifted by a friend, and sometimes I also use shared bikes like Anywheel or HelloRide. My goal is simple — to keep exploring new trails and share these discoveries with my friends, my daughter, and anyone else looking for their own slice of peace on two wheels.

For me, cycling is more than just exercise. It’s my way of slowing down, clearing my mind, and finding balance after long workdays. Each ride reminds me that taking time for myself matters — that even in moments of solitude, there is clarity, strength, and renewal to be found.
