Breaking Fast, Building Bonds

On 12 March, JurongHealth Campus (JHC) marked the spirit of Ramadan with an Iftar gathering at the Auditorium Foyer. Organised by HR Employee Engagement, the event welcomed staff from across the campus to come together for an evening of good food, connection and community.

More than 80 staff attended the gathering — the first Iftar hosted since the COVID-19 pandemic. CEO A/Prof Dan Yock Young and CHRO Ms Adeline Lee surprised the crowd by dressing in traditional Hari Raya attire to commemorate the occasion.
In CEO’s opening remarks, he thanked staff for taking time to join the gathering and reminded everyone that Iftar is more than just a meal to break the fast - it is a time to come together, strengthen bonds and celebrate the diversity that makes our organisation stronger.

Before the meal began, Dr Norhisham Main (Senior Consultant, Medicine, NTFGH) led Muslim staff in a prayer to mark the moment of breaking fast. As the call to prayer signalled the breaking of the fast, it was heartening to see colleagues - Muslim and non-Muslim alike coming together after working hours to share a meal and enjoy each other’s company in the spirit of Ramadan.

Beyond the Iftar gathering, HR Employee Engagement also partnered with Allied Health to spread the spirit of giving throughout the month. Every Tuesday and Thursday, colleagues were treated to warm bowls of bubur (porridge)at Kampung - a simple but meaningful offering that brought comfort and smiles to many who stopped by after a long day.

The evening — along with these thoughtful initiatives — served as a meaningful reminder of the strong sense of community at JHC, where moments like these bring colleagues closer beyond the workstation.
