Hi, I'm Amanda! 👋
I’m a Psychologist at NTFGH, and I’ve been working here for the past two and a half years.
I’ve always had a deep interest in understanding human behaviour, emotions, and the ways people navigate life’s challenges. I’m drawn to the unique stories behind each individual and how their experiences shape the way they see themselves, others, and the world. What inspires me the most about my job is the opportunity to support patients through difficult moments, helping them to make sense of their experiences, build resilience, and recognise their strengths. I find it especially rewarding to witness patients implement even small changes in their daily life.
These seemingly small steps can represent meaningful progress and reminds me that change doesn’t always have to be big to make a difference.
Let's bust some common psychiatry myths!
Myth 1: Psychologists can read people's minds.
Truth: Psychologists can't read people's minds! People sometimes assume that psychologists can tell what someone is thinking or feeling by simply observing their behaviour or body language. In reality, psychologists develop hypotheses by considering patterns of behaviour over time, the person's personal and social context, their reported experiences, and relevant clinical information. They also recognise the limitations of their observations, and use appropriate assessment and professional judgement to build a more comprehensive understanding of the person.
Myth 2: Therapy is only for people with severe mental health problems.
Truth: Therapy can benefit anyone experiencing a range of challenges, including relationship difficulties, grief, adjustment issues, stress, burnout, low self-esteem, emotion regulation difficulties, or a desire for personal growth.
You ask, I'll answer!
