On 9 January 2026, staff gathered at Tower B, Level 2 Kampung from 12pm to 2pm for Occupational Therapy Day 2026, a hands-on learning event held in collaboration with the Health Promoting Hospital Committee. Pivoted on three practical pillars, Safer You (Ergonomics 🪑), Safer Homes (Home Modifications 🏠) and Safer Community (Wheelchairs 🦽), the programme offered practical takeaways that staff could apply at work, at home and in the wider community.

Taking a refreshed ✨ direction this year, the event moved beyond treatment towards a more holistic, preventive and community-focused approach. Compared to previous OT Day events, there was a stronger emphasis on interactive learning 👥, giving participants opportunities to practise, trial equipment 🧑🏻‍🦽‍➡️ and apply tips immediately through guided demonstrations and real-life scenarios.

At the Safer You station, colleagues explored better body positioning and ergonomics, including how to set themselves up more safely when using Computers on Wheels (COWs 🐮). The Safer Homes section spotlighted practical ways to make living spaces safer and more senior-friendly 👴🏻, showing how simple modifications and assistive solutions can support safer, more independent living. Over at Safer Community, staff learnt about wheelchair functions and parts, along with updated regulations related to personal mobility aids 🦼, and had the chance to trial devices and understand safe usage in a practical setting.

In line with CEO A/Prof Dan Yock Young’s vision of JHC Ver. 2026, Occupational Therapy Day 2026 reflected how we can be a 🧪 Catalyst of Change ⚡by moving care beyond treatment towards prevention and empowerment. Through practical, hands-on education, staff picked up small changes they could apply straightaway to care for themselves, support safer living at home, and contribute to a safer community. The event also brought the value of Embrace Compassion ❤️ to life through warm, one-to-one interactions and shared learning in groups, fostering trust, kindness and meaningful connection across our JHC community.
