Thank You, Staff Nurse Yip Song Ling, for Your Public-Spiritedness
In Staff Nurse (SN) Yip Song Ling of Ward C4, Jurong Community Hospital, recently became an unexpected hero when she responded to a cry for help in a public space, despite being on leave in Malaysia.
With an almost an intuitive response upon hearing the distress call, SN Song Ling rushed to the scene and found an unconscious woman who was not breathing. Drawing upon her nursing background and quick thinking, she immediately sprang into action. Despite the absence of an automated external defibrillator (AED), SN Song Ling initiated life-saving CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation).
SN Song Ling administered five rounds of CPR before the woman began to breathe, and was subsequently conveyed to the local hospital. The woman's husband expressed his gratitude through a heartfelt letter, acknowledging SN Song Ling's invaluable contribution to saving a precious life.
SN Song Ling is also an active volunteer on the Singapore Civil Defence Force's (SCDF) myResponder app, further demonstrating her dedication towards her profession and the well-being of the community.
