Strengthening Ties:
South Australia Delegation Visits Our ED

On 27 May 2025, we had the honour of hosting a distinguished delegation from the Department for Health and Wellbeing, Government of South Australia (SA Health). The visit focused on our Emergency Department (ED), and highlighted a shared commitment to advancing patient care, improving operational efficiency, and fostering meaningful knowledge exchange.
The delegation included Mr Chris Picton, Minister for Health and Wellbeing (South Australia), Dr Robyn Lawrence, Chief Executive, Department for Health and Wellbeing (South Australia), and Mr David Wilkins, Chief of Staff to the Minister for Health and Wellbeing (South Australia).
Our guests were warmly received at the Level 8 Boardroom by senior leaders from the JurongHealth Campus leadership team—A/Prof Dan Yock Young (Chief Executive Officer, NTFGH and JCH), Clin A/Prof Low Shiong Wen (Chairman, Medical Board, NTFGH), Ms Ng Bee Ling (Chief Operating Officer, NTFGH & JCH), and Ms Ng Sow Chun (Chief Nurse, NTFGH & JCH).

Dr Gary Choa, Head and Senior Consultant of Emergency Medicine, shared strategies that help our ED manage high patient load, reduce transfer delays, and respond to workforce challenges—critical concerns shared by healthcare systems globally.

An insightful Q&A session followed, where both teams exchanged insights on pressing issues such as ED overcrowding, patient flow bottlenecks, and staffing sustainability. The open dialogue reflected a mutual interest in continuous learning and improvement, and set the stage for future exchange of ideas and innovations.

Following the presentation, a gift exchange took place, symbolising mutual appreciation and goodwill between both parties. It marked a warm gesture of friendship and reinforced the spirit of international collaboration.
The delegation was then brought on a guided tour of our ED facilities—including the P1, P2, and P3 zones, as well as the Extended Diagnostic Treatment Unit (EDTU). The tour was led by Dr Choa, and supported by Ms Ng Wei Wei (Assistant Director of Nursing, Nursing Administration, NTFGH), Ms Joyce Loke (Senior Assistant Director, Emergency Medicine, NTFGH) and Ms Janna Goh (Senior Manager, Emergency Medicine, NTFGH).

This visit not only deepened our ties with international partners, but also reaffirmed JurongHealth Campus' role as a collaborative and forward-looking institution. It served as a timely reminder that while healthcare challenges may differ in scale or setting, our shared pursuit of excellence, innovation, and learning knows no borders.
