❤️ When Care Never Stops
(SCDF Community Lifesaver Awardees)

At JurongHealth Campus, compassion doesn’t clock out. Our people carry their care beyond hospital walls — into homes, communities, and moments that truly matter. This year, four remarkable colleagues showed what it means when instinct, skill, and heart come together — even off duty.

National Day 🇸🇬 Response: Vincent Tan & Dr Norman Lin

On 09 August 2025, while Singapore was wrapped in celebration, Vincent Tan, Senior Associate Executive from Group Hospitality Services at NTFGH, received a cardiac arrest alert on his myResponder app.

He was at a family gathering — yet, without hesitation, he grabbed the nearest Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and rushed to the scene.

When Vincent arrived, a family member was already performing CPR. Moments later, Dr Norman Lin, then a resident doctor with MOHH deployed to NTFGH (now with NUH), came sprinting 200 metres on foot after receiving the same alert. Though they had never met, the two fell into rhythm instantly — Dr Norman took over chest compressions while Vincent readied and applied the AED.

Together, they delivered two life-saving shocks and continued resuscitation until SCDF paramedics arrived.

Their Minds Said Go — and They Did

The alert from the phone gives me the chills because out there, someone’s heart stopped. I dropped everything and headed to the location immediately. Panic hit me, and I was lost for a second. However, I focused on what I was trained to do—CPR and AED. There was nothing else in my head, other than to revive the patient

As an Internal Medicine resident, this was part of my training, having rotated through ICU and Cardiology. The process was second nature to me—but this was unlike a ward setting.

We had no nurses or equipment, just basic life support and each other. It was physically tiring, and I was trying to coordinate the resuscitation with Vincent and later with the paramedics to ensure minimal interruption.

Though the patient passed on eventually, their swift, coordinated response gave the victim the best possible chance — and offered the family precious comfort in those final moments. Both were honoured with the SCDF Community Lifesaver Award.

In their words...

I am honoured to receive the award from SCDF, but it belongs to everyone who gives their all when it matters the most. True honour was being able to try to make a difference.

Every minute counts and we can make monumental difference to our neighbour’s life when the call arises.

July Response: SSN Thulasi Krishnaraj & SN John Ho

Just weeks before the National Day incident, another act of courage unfolded — this time, right at home.

One evening in July 2025, Senior Staff Nurse (SSN) Thulasi Krishnaraj from Emergency Department (ED), was at home when her myResponder app alerted her to a cardiac arrest just two floors below.

She rushed down and began CPR. Coincidentally, her colleague Staff Nurse (SN) John Ho, similarly from ED, who lives two blocks away, received the same alert and arrived shortly after—surprised to see his teammate already in action.

Together, they took turns performing CPR, maintaining calm and coordination until SCDF paramedics arrived — all within ten minutes of the initial alert.

“It was instinctive,” said SSN Thulasi. “We just did what we were trained to do.”

“Seeing Thulasi already there was surreal,” added John. “We work together in the ED, and suddenly we were side by side in the community, saving a life.”

Both SSN Thulasi and SN John were honoured with the SCDF Community Lifesaver Award too.

A Shared Message of Hope
These stories are more than coincidences—they’re reflections of the deep commitment our staff carry, even off duty. Whether medical or non-medical, our colleagues step forward when it matters most.

For Vincent, his journey as a responder began after attending fire warden training organised by NTFGH’s Security team. Inspired, he volunteered for myResponder, and his family has since become his biggest supporters—recognising the mobile app’s alarm and encouraging him to respond without hesitation.
