NTFGH Shares Our Transformative Journeys
Earlier this year in February 2024, Ng Teng Fong General Hospital (NTFGH) had the honour of hosting our former Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. We showcased the remarkable transformation journey of our OT Inventory System and VitalScout teams, highlighting our innovative spirit and dedication to excellence. This event attracted significant interest from other Public Healthcare Institutions (PHIs), eager to learn from our experiences. On 30 April 2024, we shared the story behind our success, focusing on how we can collaboratively foster future-ready healthcare solutions.
The primary goal of this session was to provide an in-depth understanding of the transformation journey undertaken by NTFGH in collaboration with NTUC Industry Training & Transformation (IT&T), e2i, and the Healthcare Services Employees’ Union (HSEU). By sharing our experiences, we aimed to inspire and guide other PHIs on leveraging NTUC IT&T's consultancy to chart their own transformation journeys through the Operation and Technology Roadmap (OTR). The OTR, supported by e2i grants, focused on achieving two key outcomes: wage increases and comprehensive Career Development Plans.
Although our projects are still underway and we couldn't present finalised solutions, we shared the underlying ideas and concepts. These could be scaled and adapted across other PHIs once fully developed and proven effective. Our staff offered first-hand insights into the entire process, from engaging NTUC IT&T to navigating the e2i grants application. By discussing the challenges we faced, we aimed to equip other PHIs with the foresight to anticipate and manage similar issues, facilitating smoother transformation journeys.

Successful project outcomes will be shared with other PHIs in the spirit of collective growth and learning. While the adaptability of these projects will depend on the specific needs and systems of each PHI, plans are already underway to scale the VitalScout project to Alexandra Hospital (AH) and National University Hospital (NUH).
Our collaboration with NTUC IT&T, e2i, and HSEU highlighted the strong governmental support for workforce transformation. These initial projects served as a launchpad for broader innovation, showcasing the $100 million investment by the government since 2022 to create a future-ready workforce. The success of our initiatives will pave the way for numerous opportunities and collaborations aimed at continuous improvement and innovation within our healthcare system.

Other PHIs can benefit significantly from our session by learning how to engage Synapxe effectively. Securing senior management approval and budget allocations early by including projects in the IT Workplan was crucial. Engaging NTUC and e2i early was also vital, as their teams supported every stage of the transformation journey, from planning to execution. Understanding the composition of Company Training Committees (CTC) and the project selection process was essential. Starting with small, scalable ideas and identifying strong project leaders was key. While cross-collaborative projects may be more challenging, they can yield significant impact.
As our projects progress, the impact and results will become clearer by the end of the year. These projects will serve as benchmarks for other PHIs to measure their own progress and adapt strategies that have proven successful in similar settings. By sharing our journey and insights, we aim to foster a collaborative environment where all PHIs can benefit from collective knowledge and experience, driving the healthcare sector towards a more innovative and resilient future!
