Honouring Our Past, Shaping Our Future

On 27 May 2025, the Kampung at Tower B, Level 2, came alive with warmth and anticipation as staff and Senior Leaders gathered for the unveiling of our refreshed Heritage Wall—a vibrant tribute to the people, milestones, and spirit that define JurongHealth Campus (JHC). It reflects not only our proud past, but also a forward-looking spirit that anchors us as we journey into the next decade and beyond. More than just a visual timeline, the new wall tells a living story—one that honours our past, celebrates our present, and looks boldly toward the future.

In April, the space was temporarily hoarded up to transform it into a canvas for creativity and reflection. Staff were encouraged to pen their thoughts freely on when they feel valued 💕, supported 🧑🏻🤝🧑🏻, and empowered 💪🏻. This was no ordinary work-in-progress site—it was a collaborative space that sparked connection, curiosity, and even a little artistic flair. The heartfelt messages poured in, revealing moments of appreciation for colleagues, leadership, and the shared journey we have taken together. Selected quotes now take pride of place on the new wall, giving it an authentic and personal voice that speaks for all of us.

The milestone also marked the creation of our first JHC Time Capsule 💊, to be reopened in 2035. Departments and individuals across the campus contributed a treasure trove of meaningful items—each one capturing a chapter of our journey. Among the contributions:
-
CEO A/Prof Dan Yock Young entrusted his scrubs top and a letter to the future CEO of JHC.
-
CMB Clin A/Prof Low Shiong Wen included his staff pass from Alexandra Hospital days.
-
CN Ms Ng Sow Chun offered her COVID-19 Resilience Medal 🎖️, a 2021 Nurses’ Day photo 👩🏻⚕️👨🏾⚕️, and a card of encouragement from then-CMB Clin A/Prof Gerald Chua 👨🏻🏫.
From the Department of Medicine came their old departmental mobile phone📱and a doctor's pager 📟, along with name tags from the past, a Jurong General Hospital staff pass and name card. Communications Department contributed original newspapers 📰 from the official opening of NTFGH & JCH on 10 October 2015 while Facilities Management added old nurse call buttons. Individual contributions included a 2016 Long Service Awards invitation card 💌, a copy of the Jurong General Hospital Staff Handbook, and an offer letter dated 21 June 2010 from Cecilia Tan, Senior Manager, Learning & Development. Serene Tan, Assistant Manager, General Services, contributed a name tag issued for a CEO Tea Session 🍵 on 19 October 2009.
These simple yet meaningful items will be kept in the time capsule as a snapshot of our past and present for future generations of JHC.

A/Prof Dan addressed the crowd with a hopeful and energising message. Reflecting on where we have been and where we are headed, he spoke of our commitment to lead, create and build over the next decade—being Nimbler 🏃🏻 in adapting to change, Safer 🛟 in every patient interaction, Kinder 💓 in how we treat one another, and Smarter 💡in how we work and innovate.
At the heart of his message was a powerful reminder: transformation starts with people. Echoing the Supercharging Our People @JHC initiative, he spotlighted our campaign tagline—Because of You—as a call to every staff member to step into the next chapter with pride and purpose: The Best of Us. The Next 10 Years.

The event wrapped with staff mingling, exchanging memories, and exploring the Heritage Wall together. It was a chance to pause, reflect 💭, and celebrate how far we have come—from our beginnings at Alexandra Hospital to the advanced care we deliver today with innovations like VitalScout.
In every story told and every item sealed away, we’re reminded that our future is built on the strength 💪🏻 of our people. And this journey—we continue it together. 🛣️🫱🏻🫲🏻
