NUHS App Updates:
Smoother, Smarter Care

DSC04347_edited.jpg

Since 01 April 2025, the NUHS App rolled out a suite of enhancements designed to streamline hospital operations, improve patient experience, and ease the daily workload for healthcare professionals at Emergency Department (ED).

This initiative is a collaborative effort involving Ng Teng Fong General Hospital (NTFGH), Alexandra Hospital (AH), National University Hospital (NUH), and the upcoming Tengah General and Community Hospital. Led by the NUHS Digital Emergency Care Workgroup, the initiative aims to empower patients through self-service features.

New Emergency Visit Feature to Ease Triage Pressure

One of the most impactful additions is the Emergency Visit Feature, which simplifies the patient journey even before they arrive at the Emergency Department (ED). With this feature, patients can:

This enhancement reduces screening time and allows screeners to assess patients more efficiently based on visual cues—helping prioritise time-sensitive cases and identify those who may need isolation.

Smoother Discharges, Less Paperwork

With the new After Visit Summary (AVS) and Discharge Advice features, patients can now view important post-visit information directly on the app once they are discharged via EPIC. This change improves workflow for doctors, nurses, Patient Service Associates (PSAs), and screeners.

Instead of printing these documents for every patient, staff only need to provide hardcopies upon request, particularly for elderly patient or those without access to the app. This shift reduces printing load and shortens discharge time—allowing staff to focus on other care duties.

Patients Can Now Access More – Anytime, Anywhere

The app already allows patients to view medical certificates (MCs), bills, and investigation results. Now, patients can also:

  • Download lab test results and MCs

  • View After Visit Summary and Discharge Advice

  • Receive notifications when their documents are available

* Do note that while lab results are shown, imaging reports like X-rays, MRIs, and ECGs are not currently available in the app. Records are accessible only to individual users (not yet for children or dependents).

These changes are part of a broader rollout aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and delivering a better care experience for all.

Representing NTFGH in the NUHS Digital Emergency Care Workgroup are Dr Joeann Lim (Associate Consultant, Emergency Medicine, NTFGH), Bay Swee Ling (Manager, Emergency Medicine, NTFGH), Eileen Ng (Manager, Emergency Medicine, NTFGH), and Tan Soo Hui (Nurse Manager, Emergency Department, NTFGH)—key members who have played a critical role in shaping the enhancements. While they already work closely with colleagues across job groups daily, participating in this workgroup brought a new depth of collaboration across institutions.

We work with doctors, nurses, and operations staff every day, but being part of this workgroup gave us a unique chance to brainstorm together and have deeper conversations about what truly matters to patients and staff. It wasn’t just about adding features—it was about making the app genuinely helpful. What made this project special was how different hospital entities came together to streamline our workflows into one unified experience. At the end of the day, we had a shared goal: to build something seamless, efficient, and meaningful for everyone.
